UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS FINE ARTS CENTER

By reimagining and revitalizing outdoor community spaces, the landscape design fosters both daily and programmatic opportunities for engagement between students, faculty, and guests on the University of Arkansas campus.

The University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center campus concept design provides pedestrian-focused environments with flexible areas for exterior programming. Several key campus features will be renewed and revitalized, including an outdoor theater court, a sculpture garden, a fountain, existing pathways, and several brick masonry walls. The design will improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and intuitive paths to building entries, while utilizing a consistent palette of paving and planting materials to create a cohesive sense of place.

The landscape consists primarily of two spaces—the Yard and Anthony’s Way, which are both seamlessly connected to the interior of the building. The Yard is a large flexible outdoor space for work and engagement, flanked by a stepped seating area for outdoor group learning. Anthony’s Way is a more intimate outdoor space that provides flexible seating in a grove of native hardwood trees. To promote climate education, stormwater will be collected in a celebratory way.
